VIDEO: Keeping it Local at the Annual Newton-Needham Chamber Achievement Breakfast

The 97th Annual Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce Achievement Breakfast honored a number of local entrepreneurs and business leaders. State Treasurer Steve Grossman, a Newton resident, was the keynote speaker.

It was all about keeping business local Wednesday morning at the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce 97th Annual Achievement Breakfast.  The event, which was held at the Needham Sheraton, featured WBUR business & technology reported Curt Nickisch as master of ceremonies and State Treasurer Steve Grossman as the event's keynote speaker.  Grossman focused on the importance of keeping small businesses strong in the Newton and Needham communities and across the Commonwealth. Among the many topics he spoke about, Grossman emphasized the importance of the "main street fairness" campaign, which looks to require online companies to charge the 6.25 percent sales tax to customers in Massachusetts.  Keeping with the theme of local, small businesses, …

Newton-Needham Chamber President Named Framingham Town Manager

Concord resident has more than 25 years of experience in local government.

The Framingham Board of Selectmen agreed Thursday night to offer the job of town manager to Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce President Robert Halpin. Former Longmeadow town manager Robin Crosbie and Naugatuck, CT, mayor Ronald San Angelo were the other two finalists for the position. Halpin, a Concord resident, has more than 25 years of experience in local government and served as town manager in Westford and North Andover. He also was in charge of the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council. “It came down to who could match skills with Framingham’s needs, both in the short term and the long term,” Framingham Selectman Dennis Giombetti said. “We were fortunate to have three very, very, very good candidates.” After hearing glowing …

Newton-Needham Chamber President Finalist for Town Manager Position

Robert J. Halpin of Concord is one of four finalists for the Framingham town manager position.

Although he's been on the job for roughly 10 months, Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce President Robert Halpin could be moving on to a new position soon.  Halpin is one of four finalists for the Framingham town manager position, Framingham Patch reported last night. A Concord resident, Halpin was appointed as Newton-Needham Chamber President in May of last year. According to a press release issued at that time, Halpin had served for 23 years as some form of local government manager and played an important role in developing the I-93 Tri-Town Interchange Project. He holds a master's degree in public administration from Suffolk University and a bachelor's degree in community planning and management from UMass Boston. Along with Halpin, the …
