It was a big year in Needham: a certain Olympian went to London, captaining a gold-winning gymnastics team, a Hollywood actor nearly cooking his goose, and an election. Here are the ten top-read stories from Needham Patch in 2012: Former Needham Local Editor Becca Manning contributed to the list, and helped bring the total stories up to 10. Honorable Mention: Will Ferrell Nearly Has His Goose Cooked on Thanksgiving. Do you agree with this list? Disagree? What did you think were the top stories this year?
TMZ reports that, while celebrating in Needham, MA, actor Will Ferrell's Thanksgiving dinner was interrupted by a small house fire.
One Needham household had a fairly exciting thanksgiving: not only a visiting film star, but a fire. Will Ferrell's family was sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner when one of the kids present noticed the garage was on fire, according to the report on TMZ. No injuries and no major damage to the home reported, but Ferrell was reportedly in high spirits and joking with the Needham Police and Fire Department. See the full story on TMZ. According to an American Red Cross fact sheet (see PDFs), cooking fires are nearly twice as common on Thanksgiving day than on any other day. The cause of the home fire mentioned above is not clear, however Thanksgiving day fires are common enough to warrant a page on the Answers.USA.gov page.
