Needham olympian Aly Raisman stops by the Pollard Middle School to talk about underage drinking and making healthy decisions.
A Needham Olympian returned to her middle school today--to talk to the kids about making good choices. Aly Raisman brought The Century Council's Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don't Mix program to the Pollard Middle School on Monday. The program encourage parents and kids to have active discussions about the dangers of underage drinking. In addition to promoting an ongoing dialog between parents and kids, the Ask, Listen Learn program aims to give kids the courage to "say YES to a healthy lifestyle and NO to underage drinking." To that effect several student leaders, and Raisman, played a quick interactive game on a projection screen. A runner jogs along as the player ran in place on a mat for about 30 seconds, then stops to answer…

State Justices ruled this week that party hosts would not be held liable if underage guests drink and drive and cause injury or death as a result.
Residents throughout the Commonwealth who choose to host "Bring Your Own Booze" parties are now free from liability if underage drinking occurs at those events and guests who drive drunk cause injuries, death or damage, according to a Boston Herald report Tuesday. The ruling derives from a majority opinion of Massachusetts Justices Fernande Duffly, Robert Cordy, Barbara Lenk, and Francis Spina, who claimed that social hosts can't be expected to "police their guests' drinking" and the ruling states that only hosts who supply alcohol to guests can be held legally responsible, according to the Boston Herald. But we want to know what you, as residents, think about the issue. Do you agree or disagree? Weigh in with your thoughts in today's …

As a parent, I believe anything that can be done to stop underage drinking in Needham is welcome. I too was one of those that drank at an early age and wonder to this day how I survived without getting in a wreck. It wasnt until I had children myself that I realized how frightening it can be for a parent. I'm not against drinking - I just agree it should be at an age when you can drink …   more ›
