Rockets Basketball Takes on Braintree

Highlights from the game via the Needham Channel.

The following was sent by the Needham Channel: Braintree played tough and led the whole game. Needham was able to get within 2 late in the game, but couldn't convert after Braintree made their free throws down the stretch and won 60-52. Rockets now need to win out in order to make the postseason. The Rockets play Newton North today.

2012 Needham Channel Founders Awards Announced

Four Needham Channel volunteers received awards at the Volunteer Appreciation Party.

Every year, the Needham Channel takes some time to thank members of their team for service. This year, the four honorees are Mike Riley, Colleen Lavery, John Milligan and Jonathan Tamkin.  Needham Channel Executive Director Marc Mandel explained in a press release that, “The people chosen to receive the Founders’ Award reflect what the Needham Channel is all about. Each of them have significantly shaped either what we do or how we do it. I can’t imagine what our studio would be like with out them.” Starting on Feb 7, The Needham Channel will air "Empowering Teens," an episode of District Attorney Michael Morrissey's program "Making Decisions" filmed with three Needham teens last week. Needham Documentary To Debut on WGBH

'Big Little Town' tells the story of Needham from its establishment in 1711 through today.

The documentary film, “Big Little Town: The Story of Needham,” will premiere on WGBH this week. Originally screened at a special event held in Needham's James Hugh Powers Hall, the film—a joint presentation of Needham 300, the Needham Historical Society and The Needham Channel—will be broadcast on Thursday, July 19 at 10 p.m. The film will air again from July 20-22 (see the full schedule below). A description of the film provided by the Historical Society states: Before there was a United States, there was a Needham. First a part of Dedham in 1630, Needham was established as an independent town in 1711. Needham Police Reopen 1986 Infant Homicide Case

The Needham Channel recently aired a follow-up report on the investigation into the death of an infant girl, named "Fredericka Mary," whose body was discovered at Claxton Field more than 25 years ago.

A new video posted this week on The Needham Channel's YouTube page takes another look at a homicide case from 1986, in which the body of an infant girl was found in a trash barrel at Claxton Field in Needham. The video story, which first aired on local cable on Thursday, June 14, is a follow-up to an investigative report The Needham Channel produced in 2006, which looked into the unsolved homicide of an unidentified infant who was posthumously named "Fredericka Mary." According to The Needham Channel report by Joe McGinty, on Mother's Day, May 11, 1986, a man searching for recyclable bottles at Claxton Field came across the body of an infant, wrapped in a shopping bag from a local supermarket. New Needham Documentary To Be Screened in Powers Hall

'Big Little Town' offers window into small town life across America

By Sandy Tobin As a finale to the Needham 300 celebration, a documentary on the colorful history of Needham is being released. A premiere screening of “Big Little Town: The Story of Needham” will take place in Powers Hall on Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. and is free to the first 300 people to come to the door. The film will also be broadcast locally on The Needham Channel and is slated for release on WGBH Boston sometime over the next few months.
