Police Reports: Man ‘Acting Suspiciously Near Bank’

The following information was supplied by the Needham Police Department. Any charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

A man who was seen “acting suspiciously” behind the People's United Bank on Highland Avenue fled from a police officer when confronted. A Needham officer was on patrol in the area on Wednesday, May 15 at around 3:30 p.m. when he noticed the man and approached him, asking the man what he was doing. When questioned, the individual—later identified as a 22-year-old Mount Ida College student—fled on foot toward Hunnewell and Webster streets, according to reports. Police searched the area but did not locate the man. The man later returned to his vehicle. No charges were noted in the police report. Police Reports: Moped Hit in Sudbury Farms Lot

The following information was supplied by the Needham Police Department. Any charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

A moped owner called Needham Police on Tuesday, Aug. 9 after someone knocked over his bike while it was parked at Sudbury Farms on Highland Avenue. The individual told police that when he came back to his bike around 12:15 p.m. it was lying on the ground. A plastic fender, kickstand and starter were broken off the vehicle. There were no witnesses to the hit-and-run, according to police reports. Also reported by the Needham Police Department recently:  Sunglasses, Cash Taken from Vehicle  Sunglasses and cash were taken from a vehicle parked on Webster Street last week. The vehicle owner reported the incident around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9. She told police she had left the car unlocked and that her sunglasses, cash and several dollars …

Police Alert Needham Residents to Phone Scam

Caller claims a family member is in trouble and asks for money to be wired to help.

Needham police are asking residents to be alert to a telephone scam that has been reported in the area. “In this type of scam, a resident receives a call from someone pretending to be a relative (i.e. grandson, niece, etc.), or a friend of a relative, stating that they are in trouble with the law and in court.  This person then asks the victim to wire money via Western Union for bail,” Needham Police Lt. Chris Baker said in a statement. The amount the caller asks for is typically several thousand dollars, Baker said. “The Needham Police Department urges residents to follow up with other relatives to verify the validity of any claims such as this before sending anyone money to help,” Baker said.
