Late October storm drops snow, ice on Needham.

A few days before Needham's little ghosts and goblins hit the street for some Trick-or-Treating, the town saw a truly scary sight—several inches of snowfall in October. The early winter storm that arrived late Saturday, Oct. 29 brought heavy rain, ice and snow as well as strong winds that caused trees and wires to come down around town and resulted in more than 3,000 customers without power as of Sunday morning. Despite the unpleasantness of late-October snow, a few Needham residents could be seen outside early Sunday enjoying the fruits of the storm—trying out their snowboards on the hill behind Needham High School. Winter Storm Possible This Weekend

Needham and other areas west and north of Boston could see 2 to 5 inches of snow between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for western Norfolk County and other areas of southern New England effective late Saturday into early Sunday. Calling it "the first potential winter storm of the season," the National Weather Service is forecasting a chance for 2 to 5 inches of snowfall on the area. The watch—not yet a warning as of Friday afternoon—advises area residents to expect "a mix of wet and snowy weather" and warned that "with leaves still on the trees, this heavy, wet snow could cause branches to break, with power outages possible." The National Weather Service is also predicting strong northeast winds. Stay tuned to your local weather station for updates as the storm progresses.
