A car crashed into a jersey barrier in Needham.
UPDATE, 1:16 p.m.: According to State Police, the 57-year-driver, a Bridgewater resident, "left the highway" and continued to drive on an unpaved construction road near exit 15. As he neared exit 17, the car hit a construction truck and fell down an embankment. The driver was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are investigating whether the driver had a medical issue. -- UPDATE, 11:45 a.m.: According to WBZ-TV, the crash technically took place in Dedham when a driver entered an off-limits roadway near a construction zone and became stuck on a jersey barrier. Commuters teamed up to assist the New Bedford driver when her vehicle began smoking on Route 128 in Needham.
A New Bedford woman received some life-saving assistance from a fellow commuter Wednesday evening when her car caught fire on Route 128 in Needham. Waltham resident Luke Tripp told FOX 25 that he was following a car on Route 128 southbound near exit 18 in Needham at around 7 p.m. when he saw smoke coming from underneath the car in front of him, according to an article posted on myfoxboston.com. Tripp was able to get the female driver's attention, and she pulled over to the breakdown lane. Soon after, flames began showing in the vehicle, and Tripp used a fire extinguisher from his truck to fight the fire while two more people helped pull the woman out of the car, according to the Fox story. Residents heard the latest on proposed improvements to I-95/I-93 (Route 128) and related interchanges in Needham/Newton and Wellesley at a meeting on June 11.
While the I-95 Add-a-Lane Project is designed to help alleviate traffic concerns on local roadways and make highway travel safer, several Needham residents are concerned about how the changes will increase traffic in their neighborhood. The Add-a-Lane Project, which will widen both sides of I-95 (Route 128) and restore the breakdown lane to its original use, includes roadwork on five bridges in the area and the addition of a new interchange at Kendrick Street. It was that addition that drew the most questions Monday night at a presentation sponsored by the Needham Heights Neighborhood Association. One crash happened at an on-ramp to Route 128 southbound, the other on Route 128 northbound.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating a rollover crash that occurred Thursday morning at the on-ramp from Route 135 onto Route 128 southbound on the Needham-Dedham border. Two people were injured in the single-car accident. A 69-year-old Mansfield man was behind the wheel and a 71-year-old Mansfield woman was in the passenger seat of the Ford F-350 truck. Both people were transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Needham with non-fatal injuries, according to police. State police are investigating the cause of the crash, but a MSP spokesperson said icy and wet road conditions were at least partially to blame. No injuries reported in Tuesday morning crash.
A single-vehicle crash on Route 128/I-95 south near Needham caused some traffic issues for commuters this morning. Around 9:00 a.m., a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a Newton woman hit the guardrail in the left-hand traveling lane near exit 19A/B, damaging three sections of the guardrail, according to David Procopio, spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police. Along with the driver, a 55-year-old Newton resident, the vehicle contained a 10-year-old passenger. Neither of the two was seriously injured in the crash, Procopio said. The vehicle was towed from the scene. It was not immediately clear what caused the driver to hit the guardrail, Procopio said. State police are investigating.

State police report that the individual was transported to Beth Israel with serious injuries.
One person was transported to the hospital Sunday night after suffering serious injuries in a rollover crash on Route 128 South. The single-vehicle crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. on Route 128 South just prior to exit 17 in Needham, with the vehicle ending up on the side of the highway, according to state police Sgt. Michael Popovics. The driver, a male, was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for what appeared to be serious injuries, according to police. The crash remains under investigation. Traffic was moving regularly by about 11:00 p.m., Popovics said.

Officials, citizens from Needham, Wellesley and Newton consider improvements to highway that could begin in 2013.
Town officials and residents of Needham and Wellesley heard the latest plans for improving I-95/I-93/Route 128 Wednesday night, including a new interchange at Kendrick Street in Needham, wider lanes and areas designated for pedestrians and bicyclists. Representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and from agencies hired to design the plans held a public hearing at Broadmeadow Elementary School in Needham, soliciting final input about the proposed improvements to I-95/I-93/Route 128 before completing the proposal and moving into the next stage. The article mentions "a defunct railroad bridge located between Kendrick Street and Great Plain Avenue". Isn't the only railroad bridge between those two points the currently active commuter rail line? The proposed rail trail bridge is north of Kendrick Street.   more ›
