Rockets Review: Wellesley-Needham Rivalry up for Best in US, Coach Recognized

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week.

Needham vs Wellesley is up for Best High School Football Rivalry in the Country! Voting for the top rivalry at the State level will end at 11 a.m. on Monday (12/3), and if Needham vs Wellesley wins MA, regional voting will start this Wednesday (12/5) and run through Wednesday, 12/12. Rockets Review: MIAA Tournament Recap, Thanksgiving Game Tickets

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week--including a certain Championship win.

MIAA TOURNAMENT RE-CAP: BOYS SOCCER WINS DI STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! On Friday night (11/16) at Worcester State College, the Rockets defeated Amherst Regional HS 1-0 for Title!  Senior Mac Steeves scored the game winner in 72nd minute and the Team held on for their 16th shut-out of the season.  The Boys finish season at 21-1-3 and ranked in the top-20 Nationally! Rockets Review: Boys Soccer takes Division I South Championship

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week.

Boys Soccer Division I South Champions DI South Champion Needham Boys Soccer took home the EMASS title on Wednesday night in Lynn with a tough 2-1 victory over previously undefeated Somerville!  Senior Mac Steeves scored both goals for Needham in the first half and the team held Somerville scoreless in the second for the win. The Rockets advance to their first State Championship Game in 17 years on Friday night at 7:30pm vs DI West Champion Amherst Regional High School at Worcester State University. Rockets Review: Boys Soccer South Title, State Semis Upcoming

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week.

Boys Soccer On Sunday night in Braintree, the Needham Boys Soccer Team took one more step towards their goal of a State Title, as they defeated league rival and second-seeded Weymouth 2-0 in the Division I South Championship Game. Senior Nolan Brady notched the first goal of the game in the 70th minute and Senior Brandon Miskin added a late insurance goal with less than 3 minutes to play to secure the victory. Rockets Review: Boys & Girls Soccer Update, Needham Sports Named National Partner

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week.

#1 Boys Soccer Advances to South Final vs Weymouth: 11/11 @ Braintree HS - 7:30pm The top-seeded Needham Boys Soccer Team defeated Dartmouth 3-0 in a DI Semi-Final on Friday night to advance to the South Final at Braintree HS on Sunday (11/11).  Senior WIll Corkery started off the scoring early in the first half, with Hantzley Murat tipping in a loose ball and Aram Ouligian heading in a Mac Steeves throw-in for the 3-0 win. In the other South Semi-Final, BSC Carey Division rival #2 Weymouth beat Olives Ames 3-2 in overtime.  Needham and Weymouth will meet for a third time this season, with Needham owning one win and one tie, at 7:30pm on Sunday with a trip to the DI State Semi-Finals on the line. Needham Golfer Wins Individual Championship [UPDATE]

The golf team finished fifth, while boys and girls soccer teams both advanced in the tournament.

By Micah Hauben, NHS Director of Athletics [UPDATE Thursday 1:35 p.m.] Thursday's DI South Semi-Final soccer games have been postponed to Friday, Nov. 9. The No. 2 NHS girls soccer team will play No. 6 Oliver Ames on Friday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Taunton High School. The No. 1 NHS boys soccer team will play No. 4 Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Taunton High School. The NHS Student Fan Bus will now leave at 4:30 p.m. on Friday for Taunton. Rockets Review: Girls Volleyball Wins First Round

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week.

[UPDATED Monday, 3:08 p.m. with new soccer times] By Micah Hauben, NHS Director of Athletics On Saturday, Nov. 3, the Needham High School girls volleyball team—competing in the State Tournament for the first time in more than five years—defeated host Boston Latin in a first-round Central/East DI Tournament match. With the win, the ninth-seeded Rockets will now travel to No. 1 seed Newton North on Monday, Nov. 5 for a 4 p.m. quarterfinal match-up. Needham Soccer Earns No. 1 and 2 Seed; Field Hockey Back in State Tournament

Here's a mid-week update on Needham High School sports.

By Micah Hauben, NHS Director of Athletics MIAA Division 1 tournament seedings and schedules were announced Wednesday, Oct. 31 for boys and girls soccer and field hockey. Standing at 15-1-3, the Needham High School boys soccer team earned the No. 1 seed in DI South, while at 13-1-3, the girls earned the No. 2 seed in DI South.   The teams will play back-to-back on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Memorial Field in double-header tournament action. Needham girls will play the winner of the Falmouth/Plymouth South game at 11:45 a.m., while Needham boys will play the winner of the Brockton/Quincy game at 1:45 p.m. Ticket prices for the double-header will be $5 students and senior citizens and $7 for adults. Rockets Review: Needham Golf Advances; Soccer Teams Finish Strong

A look at how Needham High School teams did the week of Oct. 22-28.

By Micah Hauben, NHS Director of Athletics On Monday, Oct. 22, the Needham High School golf team needed every stroke in the DI South Sectional at the Canton Country Club to advance through to next Monday's (Nov. 5) State Championship at the Norton Country Club.   The low four players for Needham finished with a combined 324, finishing only one stroke in front of Xaverian, to take the third and final spot in next week's championship. Although the team did not perform up to expectations in the event, their goal of advancing was achieved, and they will now compete against the best in the state on the 5th.  Junior Jake Shuman had the best round of the day, finishing as the medalist on the day, with a tournament low score of 70. Rockets Review: Three Teams Secure League Titles

Girls volleyball punched their first postseason ticket in six years.

By Micah Hauben, NHS Director of Athletics In another strong week of action for the Needham High School Rockets, three more varsity teams secured Bay State Conference Carey Division titles, and another clinched its first trip to the postseason in more than six years.   League Titles Secured On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Needham field hockey team remained undefeated in the Carey Division, beating Braintree 3-1, wrapping up a league title and postseason trip.   No. 5 boys soccer, who had already qualified for the state tournament and was coming off a major 1-0 win against No. 2 Weymouth, followed suit by defeating Braintree 4-1 and securing a BSC Carey Division title.
