NHS' Fall Athletic Info Night Set Aug. 30

Student athletes are required to attend one of two sessions scheduled this season.

With fall sports back in full swing, Needham Public Schools Director of Athletics Micah Hauben has sent out a reminder to parents and athletes about important dates and deadlines coming up this season: Needham Athletic Information Night 1 The first mandatory Athletic Information Night will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Needham High School auditorium. All ninth and 11th grade athletes and parents, along with first-time and new-to-NHS athletes, are required to attend one of the two nights scheduled. Those who will be unable to attend on Aug. 30 should plan to be at Info Night II on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Needham's Dave Duffy Receives Positive Coaching Award

The NHS football coach was honored at the first Sports Leadership Breakfast at Fenway Park's EMC Club on June 26.

On Tuesday, June 26, the Boston chapter of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) honored two of Greater Boston’s most outstanding interscholastic coaches at the first Sports Leadership Breakfast at Fenway Park’s EMC Club.  Needham High School football coach Dave Duffy and JD O’Bryant High School girls varsity basketball and volleyball coach Gertrude Fisher received the Double Goal Coach Awards for their achievements as exceptional mentors and coaches. Duffy has been coaching Needham High School football for 14 years and has received many honors including the 2012 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association’s Coach-of-the-Year award. In those 14 years, Duffy has gone 101-53, including four post-season appearances and one Division I Super…

Positive Coaching Workshops Set this Fall

Needham High School athletes, parents encouraged to attend.

From Needham Public Schools As part of a targeted effort to provide the most positive experience for its student-athletes, and thanks to continued funding from the Needham Education Foundation, the Needham Public Schools and the Needham High School Athletic Department have entered into an expanded relationship with the Positive Coaching Alliance. Committed to enhancing the athletic culture and climate for Needham students, workshops will resume for NHS and middle school athletes, parents and coaches, while programming will now be offered for Needham youth sport organization leaders, coaches and parents as well. The NHS Athletic Department and the PCA will work together through these interactive workshops and presentations to help establish…
