Needham 4th of July By The Numbers

Here are a few fun facts about the local celebration, courtesy of North Hill.

How did Needham celebrate the 4th of July this year? North Hill provides a quick look: Residents of Needham, turned out in force to celebrate the 4th of July this year, setting a new record for food and beverage sales. Eric Moore, North Hill’s director of dining services, reported that total food receipts were up $2,000 over last year’s sales. All funds raised go to support local businesses and the work of the Needham Exchange Club. Moore shared some “fun facts”—numbers that reveal just how much Needham residents enjoyed the festival: “I’m so proud of all the North Hill team members who came together to make this a terrific festival for our Needham community,” Moore said. True North Film Festival Continues Today

Documentaries to be shown include 'My Name is Julius,' about a Needham man who lived to be 100 years old, and three others.

  The second day of the True North Documentary Film Series on Tuesday, April 10 will include a feature on a Needham man who lived to be 100, the healing power of art and other topics. Sponsored by North Hill in Needham, the two-day festival includes free screenings of six different films, on the campus of Olin College and at Andover Newton Theological School. Each film will be introduced by its director or an expert in the related field, with discussion afterwards. Films on these topics and more will be showcased this April in the first ever True North Documentary Film Series, proudly sponsored by North Hill. North Hill Hosts Lifestyle Event

Nov. 9 program celebrated launch of retirement community's expansion project.

What brought 400 active adults to North Hill on Wednesday, Nov. 9 was a lifestyle event that celebrated the launch of the community’s new project, True North. Attendees were treated to live musical performances from A Far Cry and the Boston Conservatory of Music as well as live cooking demos in the Skyway Café bar. Hundreds toured newly redesigned apartments and enjoyed gourmet food prepared by North Hill chefs. Wine and tasting tips were provided by The Urban Grape and J. Community Invited to Discover 'True North'

North Hill event will feature live music, gourmet food and wine and details about their upcoming building project.

With Town Meeting approval Monday night of zoning changes that will accommodate North Hill's new building plans, the community is invited to come celebrate the launch of Project True North with a free lifestyle event on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The evening filled will feature more than 15 booths representing travel, gardening, arts and culture and community service organizations, live cooking demonstrations, dishes made with fresh local produce provided by Volante Farms, wine tastings from Urban Grape and musical performances by Boston Conservatory of Music professors. Retirement Community Launches 'True North'

Investment of more than $100 million at Needham's North Hill will include new housing, community spaces, changes in the skilled nursing area and other amenities.

Courtesy of North Hill Seniors who live at North Hill in Needham were joined Tuesday, Nov. 1 by team members to launch "True North," the largest initiative in North Hill's 28-year history as one of the Boston area's leading retirement communities.  "Continuing care retirement communities sit at the intersection of housing, healthcare and hospitality," CEO Kevin Burke said. "The True North will impact all three and establish North Hill as the next evolution in senior living." Changes Coming to North Hill

Senior community looks to add independent apartments, renovate skilled nursing area for a less institutional feel.

Needham’s North Hill is looking to move into the 21st century. In many ways, the senior living community is already up with the times—with modern workout equipment, a new restaurant-style dining room and even their own “Wii suite” where teams compete for top ranking in digital bowling. But physically, North Hill has not changed a lot from the original idea conceived in 1979 and opened to residents in 1984. “We’re about 30 years old and buildings need to be renovated. That’s No. 1. North Hill Employees Go Green

Retirement community staff helped reduce dining room waste over the past few months.

A group of staff members at the North Hill Needham retirement community have been going green over the past few months. Starting on Earth Day in April, a team of 10 "Green Ambassadors" at North Hill Needham agreed to use a reusable lunch box or plate, reusable Nalgene bottle and silverware in lieu of Styrofoam and plastic in the Skyway Café at North Hill. Thanks to their commitment, over the past 15 weeks, North Hill reduced its daily lunch waste by approximately:  Now more team members are joining the effort, pledging to use reusable materials.
