Needham Rockets Volleyball Take On Lawrence Lancers

Highlights from the April 10 game against Lawrence from the Needham Channel.

  Needham High took on Lawrence in the final games of a series at the High School on April 10. They managed to get a 10-0 start in the second game, winning it, but ultimately lost the last two games of the match, 21-25 and 20-25 respectively The match went 3 games for Lawrence to 1 Needham in the end.  The team lost 3-0 in the games at Lawrence at the end of March. Needham Rockets Volleyball Takes On Brookline

Rockets beat the Brookline team, thanks to a strong game by one senior player.

The above Needham Channel video features highlights from the recent Needham High School Boys Volleyball match against Brookline High. The Rockets defeated Brookline in three matches to none: 25-12, 25-21, 25-9. Senior Sam Tillotson played a big role in the game, ultimately earning 15 kills.

Needham Rockets Lacrosse Opens their Season

Needham takes on Reading during a windy, cold day for their first game of the new season.

  The Needham Rockets picked up the first victory of the season against Reading. A new video from the Needham Channel highlights the game, which ended 16-3. "It was a cold and windy day, which may have affected the teams," according to an email from the Needham Channel.

Rockets Review: Winter Season Comes to a Close

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week, including wrestling, indoor track, dance and cheer, and basketball.

Girls Basketball earned the 13 seed in DI South and traveled to #4 seed Franklin on Tuesday night. The girls put up a strong effort, entering the half only down 4, and while the home team built a double digit lead in the 2nd half, the Rockets battled back and put the pressure on in the closing minutes, however there just was not enough time left, and Needham fell 54-47.  Also on Tuesday, 3 Needham athletes, Emerson Boyd, Matt Chmielewski and Eric Silverman competed in the MIAA Alpine Ski Championships at the Berkshire East Ski Area. After a successful run through the Sectional, State, All-State Tournaments, seniors Mark Carroll, John Cronin and Mikey Khibkin advanced to the New England Championships, beginning on Friday in Providence.  …

Needham Rockets in Basketball Tournament Round One

Needham answers multiple runs from Franklin at the first round of the tournament, Feb. 27.

  Here is the recap from the Needham Channel: In the 1st round of the D1 South Girls Basketball MIAA Tournament, the #13 Needham Rockets (11-9) took on the #4 Franklin Panthers (16-4) at Franklin High School on February 27, 2013. Needham answered multiple runs from Franklin to hang around all game, but could never fully comeback thanks to 20+ turnovers. Alicia Kutil led the Panthers with 16 points, while Maddy Ganser also had 16 for the Rockets.

Rockets Review: MIAA Seeding and Gatorade's Player of the Year

A look back at Needham High School sports in the last week.

  The Rockets made a few waves in the sports world last week, as one player picked up an award and a team has been seeded in an upcoming tournament. Gatorade and USA Today's High School Sports section teamed up to award their Player of the Year award to a Needham Rocket last week. For the 2012-13 season, Needham High senior forward Mac Steeves has been named Player of the Year by the paper and sports drink maker. He lead the team to a 21-1-3 record this year. Interscholastic Athletics Association recently released its 2013 seed rankings, and Needham Girls Basketball is #13 for the upcoming tourhament. Gatorade's Player of the Year: Needham's Mac Steeves

Needham High senior forward named player of the year.

Gatorade and USA Today's High School Sports section teamed up to award their Player of the Year award to a Needham Rocket earlier this week. For the 2012-13 season, Needham High senior forward Mac Steeves has been named Player of the Year by the paper and sports drink maker. He lead the team to a 21-1-3 record this year. "The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Steeves as Massachusetts’s best high school boys soccer player," according to a press release from Gatorade (see right). Highlights from the Dedham-Needham hockey game posted to the Needham Channel.

From the Needham Channel: Great effort and energy from the Needham Seniors in their last home game. Two sophomores got things going offensively for the Rockets though as James Fisher and Danny Jacobs scored 28 seconds apart in the 1st period. Enjoy and pass along. The final score of the game was 3-1.

Rockets Basketball Takes on Braintree

Highlights from the game via the Needham Channel.

The following was sent by the Needham Channel: Braintree played tough and led the whole game. Needham was able to get within 2 late in the game, but couldn't convert after Braintree made their free throws down the stretch and won 60-52. Rockets now need to win out in order to make the postseason. The Rockets play Newton North today.

Rockets Review: Boys Team Wrestling Way to Wellesley Showdown

A look at the Boys Wrestling team's latest meets against Brookline and North Andover.

The following was submitted by the Needham Wrestling Team: Needham Wrestling won its fourth straight Bay State League Meet against Brookline, 43-25, last Wednesday, before going 1-1 and making the Quarterfinals of the North Andover Dual Meet Invitational on Saturday.  Against Brookline, The Rockets got pins from Senior Captain Islam Baiev, Seniors Tak Hirayama and Aten Miles, and Sophomore Will Burke. Freshman Lucas Goldman, Senior Captain Mikhail Khibkin, Junior Zach Goldman and Senior Andrew Kingston notched decision victories against their Warrior opponents. Kingston, who had just returned from an early season injury, came back from an early deficit, beating a Brookline Captain, 8-6 in overtime.  At North Andover, The Rockets had a …
