Six Needham High Wrestlers Going to Finals

Needham High finishes third out of twelve in the Division 2 Metro Sectional.

The following was submitted by NHS Wrestling: NHS put six wrestlers in the finals of sectionals and placed two others, as the Rockets finished third in the 12 team Division 2 Metro Sectional.  Leading the way for Needham was Senior Captain Mikhail Khibkin who downed his finals opponent, 16-6, and was voted the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.  Also winning for Needham were Senior Captains Islam Baiev and John Cronin. Both came back late in the match to put their opponents on their backs for the win; Cronin, down 6-3 to a returning State Champ, pinned.  The other finalists, Sophomore Dan Goldstein, Senior Tak Hirayama and Senior Captain Mark Carroll had impressive semi-final wins, though each fell to highly ranked opponents in the finals…

Rockets Review: Wrestling in Woburn, Girls Basketball, Boys Hockey

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week. Mandatory anti-bullying meeting today 2:40 p.m.

  The following was sent by the Needham Wrestling Team: This past week saw NHS Wrestling drop a close one to Bay State League Rival and state powerhouse Framingham, 41-30 on Thursday, and then travel to the Woburn Invitational on Saturday where one Rocket took home Gold. At Framingham, the visiting Rockets took six of the fourteen bouts, earning four pins along the way: "Those guys (their opponents) weren't wrestling," said Associate Head Coach Nick Gamble. "That was their game plan-they knew they couldn't beat those guys and they just stalled by the edge of the mat to save pin points..." Despite the strategy, Carroll rolled to a major decision, 13-1, and Khibkin downed his Framingham Captain opponent, 9-4. The loss brought NHS wrestling …
