Rockets take on the top-seeded teem in the South Sectional Finals.
After a contested round against their neighbors in Needham, the Needham High Rockets boys volleyball team. After splitting the first two sets, with Newton claiming the first, and Needham taking the second match. After claiming the second match, 25-10, Needham finally won the set with 25-18. The Needham Channel says the 2:27 mark on their highlights video has a particularly good play by Needham Senior Captain Ethan Leibowitz. Needham advances to the State Semifinals on Friday, June 7th at Hudson High School at 7 p.m., where they will face Agawam.

Boys volleyball takes on the sixth-seeded Greater New Bedford over the weekend, in the South Sectional Semifinals.
Second-seeded Needham took on sixth seeded Greater New Bedford at home on Saturday, June 1. After taking the first two sets with 25 to 22, the Needham High boys volleyball team swept the series with a 25-16 score in the final round. The Rockets are headed to the South Sectional Final. Friday's snow day pushes back events at the High School and Pollard School, which are both on for today.
Friday's unexpected snow day canceled Needham schools across the town. There were a couple of events planned for the day which were also put off by the snow. At the High School, students geared up for Make a Statement Day on Thursday by decorating blank shirts with slogans and logos that mean something to them. The plan is to wear them at the end of the week, on Make a Statement Day itself. Needham Youth Coalition's Michelle Butman told Patch by e-mail that today is the day: students are wearing their shirts on March 11 for Make a Statement Day. Teens from Needham wear their feelings on their sleeves, literally, for one day of the year.
[Update: Because Needham Public Schools Closed Today, Needham Youth Services tells us the shirt-wearing part of Make a Statement Day will be on Monday, March 11. 5:34 p.m.] On Make a Statement Day, students and faculty wear white t-shirts decorated with inspirational, funny or artistic quotes--often a phrase that means something to them. The school provides blank shirts and decoration supplies--not to mention pizza and music during one of the decoration days. Needham make-a-statement day coming at the beginning of March. What would you put on your shirt?
Each year, Needham High School staff and students have a day during which they can truly express themselves: Make a Statement Day. On that day, students and faculty wear white t-shirts decorated with inspirational, funny or artistic quotes--often a phrase that means something to them. The school provides blank shirts and decoration supplies. This year, Make a Statement Day is March 8, with decorating days on March 6 in room 728, and March 7 in the cafeteria--complete with music and pizza. The Rockets won the South Sectional Final Monday evening by beating #1 seeded Newton South in 4 sets. The Rockets will take on the winner and #1 seed of the Western Sectional, Agawam, on Friday 6/7 @7:00pm at Hudson High School.   more ›
