Submissions for a Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce scholarship or green business awards are now open.
Nominations are now open for the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce's green business awards, as are applications for their scholarship, according to announcements on the Chamber's site. The deadline for Green Businesses is first: by April 30, interested applicants must submit a one-page description of their business (based in either Newton or Needham), and how it has made progress toward either reducing energy and improving sustainability, or supplying green goods or services. These nominations should be in to Chamber member, and Environment Committee chair Peter Smith, email@example.com, by a week from Tuesday. For questions, call him at 617-233-6071. The “cash mob” will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, and attendees will be encouraged to spend $10 or more at any Auburndale business of their choosing.

The seven-week Shop Local for the Holidays campaign is designed to educate residents about the many benefits of supporting local merchants, restaurant and service providers, said Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce President Greg Reibman. “If we all agreed to modify just some of our shopping habits, we could lift our local economy, support our schools, our police, our fire departments and the conditions of our streets and sidewalks,” Reibman said. …
