Needham High's spring sports season kicks off today.
The following is an edited list sent by the Needham High Athletics Department: Students who do not have all paperwork in (GOLD Form, GREEN Form & current Doctor's Physical) or have an unreturned uniform from the fall or winter, will not be eligible to begin today. Eligibility lists are posted outside of the Athletic Office and have been sent to all coaches. Dear Needham softball families and other interested parties, You may have already heard that Needham Fastpitch has combined forces with Needham Baseball to form Needham Baseball and Softball. We are starting a new recreational softball program here in Needham this spring. There will be a much stronger emphasis on skills development for the girls. Like the soccer model, the girls will have team practices and there will also be group practices run by professional instructors. We are also adding the K12 age group so we can have a comprehensive program for the girls from K through 8. You can sign your daughter up at www.NeedhamBaseball.com. The Needham Dodgers recently were named the 2012 Babe Ruth Senior League Champions, winning two of the final three games against the Mets. In the very close three-game series, the Dodgers took the first game with a score of 6-4, the Mets took the second game 12-9 and the Dodgers finally prevailed in game three winning 5-2 with an outstanding pitching performance from starter Trevor Ress and relief from Dan Goldstein who pitched four innings of shutout ball. Key hits from the "one two punch" of Dan Goldstein and Jake Hurwitz—along with a clutch seventh-inning, two-out hit from James Coen—all combined to score 4 of the 5 runs recorded.

Recapping the past year of Needham High School athletics.
With 2011 slowly coming to a close, and 2012 days away, it’s time to look back on the past year of Needham High School athletics. Here’s 10 moments that’ll forever be remembered from the past 12 months. 1. Needham Rockets Football Fall to BC High At Gillette Stadium: This was indeed one of the crowning moments of the past year, as the Rockets varsity football team accomplished their goal of playing on the grassy, green turf at Gillette Stadium. However, the outcome wasn’t as planned, as Needham fell to Boston College High School, 21-7. Yet, a valiant effort was displayed, as the Rockets, who held the Eagles running and passing game in tact, despite allowing a 91-yard touchdown dash by Deonate Ramey-Do in the second quarter. 2.
