I am very excited to vote for Michael Greis for selectman in the April 10 election. As someone who has worked closely with Michael on many community projects, I can attest to his dedication to Needham, his integrity, and—as anyone who has worked with Michael will tell you—his boundless energy. The list of municipal and community organizations Michael has founded, chaired and/or participated in is too long to mention in this letter. His 17 years as a Town Meeting member, nine years on the town Technology Advisory Board and six years as School Committee member are just a few examples of the innumerable ways he has used his energy and talents to benefit all who live and work in Needham. Always ahead of the curve, and a passionate …

Matt Borrelli and Michael Greis answered questions about the Stretch Energy Code, town finances, retail alcohol sales and other topics at the League of Women Voters forum on Monday, April 2.
The two candidates for a two-year term on the Needham Board of Selectmen shared their views on a variety of topics Monday night during the League of Women Voters of Needham Candidates' Night, held at Broadmeadow Elementary School. At the forum, which also featured the three candidates vying for two seats on the Park and Recreation Commission, selectman candidates Matt Borrelli and Michael Greis answered questions from the crowd over the course of about an hour, covering issues such as whether the town should adopt the Stretch Energy Code (Greis said yes; Borrelli said no), whether wine and beer shops should be allowed in Needham (both felt it was a possibility) and how the town should proceed with land purchases, capital improvements and …

On April 10 we have a chance to elect Michael Greis to our Board of Selectmen. He is a fiscally responsible, out-of-the-box thinker who finds creative ways to get the services our town needs. While most of us know of Michael’s extensive list of elected positions and volunteer committee chairmanships, what impress me most are his endless efforts to organize, engage and activate town officials and regular citizens alike to explore and implement new ideas that benefit individual homeowners and the entire town. For instance, when RCN petitioned to build a cable network in Needham, Michael seized the opportunity to have them build a network for Needham’s town government at an estimated saving of a million dollars. Michael enlisted my help, …

I would like to add my enthusiastic support for Michael Greis in his bid to become a selectman. Other letters have detailed his depth of experience in town government and other local projects such as The Needham Channel. I would like to comment on his leadership style. I have worked closely with Michael on environmental issues through the Green Needham Collaborative. Michael possesses a unique combination of vision and practicality. His deep sense of responsibility to future generations leads him to seek out mutually beneficial, win-win solutions that deliver successful outcomes. Promoting energy efficiency and energy conservation in the schools, for example, not only benefits the environment, but also frees up dollars for more …

Michael Greis is an outstanding candidate in the upcoming election for the two-year position for selectman. He has been an elected member of the School Committee for seven years and brings his business sensibilities to assessing and developing fiscally responsible school budgets. He led the contract negotiations responsible for implementing the rate saver health insurance plan for all school personnel, which has resulted in close to a million dollars in annual savings to the town's budget. Michael developed a five-year financial plan for future school needs that is being used for town-wide planning. Michael has an astounding breadth of involvement in many Needham organizations. This includes 16 years as a Town Meeting member, co-…

I am writing to strongly support and endorse Michael Greis for Needham selectman. I have known Michael for over 10 years as a smart, energetic and well-informed neighbor. Michael is always available to discuss issues regarding our neighborhood, our schools or our town. Michael possesses numerous qualities that will help to bring a collaborative spirit to the Needham Board of Selectmen: an insightful mind, boundless energy, the ability to forge consensus, and a genuine passion for making a difference in Needham. His education (MBA from Boston College and BS from Yale), extensive service to our community (vast board experience and contributions to the school committee), work history (financial and business skills), and family …

Finance Committee member Matt Borrelli pulled papers on Tuesday, Feb. 14 to run for a two-year term on the Needham Board of Selectmen.
Finance Committee chairman Matt Borrelli has joined the race for Needham selectman. Borrelli is vying for a two-year term that became available in January when Selectman Jim Healy stepped down for personal reasons. Borrelli is the second person to announce his candidacy for the open seat, joining School Committee member Michael Greis in the race. “I think that the board needs someone with the fiscal background, the Finance Committee background, and also someone who can represent young children coming up through the school system as well as the older generation,” Borrelli said, after pulling nomination papers Tuesday morning. Borrelli is a third-generation Needhamite, having lived most of his life in town and graduating through the Needham …

School Committee member Michael Greis plans to run April 10 for a recently vacated seat on the Board of Selectmen.
A candidate has stepped forward to fill Jim Healy’s seat on the Board of Selectmen after Healy officially resigned from the position last week. Michael Greis, a current member of the Needham Public Schools School Committee and a Town Meeting member, announced Monday he plans to run in the April 10 election to fill the remaining two years of Healy’s term. “The work I have done in the community has given me confidence that I can contribute on the Board of Selectmen, but the extensive interaction I have had with the board and its members makes clear the depth of commitment required to serve,” Greis wrote in a letter announcing his candidacy. Greis is in the first year of his third three-year term on the School Committee (serving a total of …

Thank you to Matt Borrelli and his campaign staff for their dedicated effort to engage more people in this election; especially Louise Miller, his campaign manager, and David DiCicco who selflessly put aside his own campaign to ensure that Matt‘s message was heard. To see Selectman Borrelli filling the empty seat on the Board provides promise that the work of Jim Healy will continue; that being, …   more ›
