Snow Day Reschedules Make a Statement Day, Aly Raisman

Friday's snow day pushes back events at the High School and Pollard School, which are both on for today.

Friday's unexpected snow day canceled Needham schools across the town. There were a couple of events planned for the day which were also put off by the snow. At the High School, students geared up for Make a Statement Day on Thursday by decorating blank shirts with slogans and logos that mean something to them. The plan is to wear them at the end of the week, on Make a Statement Day itself.  Needham Youth Coalition's Michelle Butman told Patch by e-mail that today is the day: students are wearing their shirts on March 11 for Make a Statement Day. Check out Patch's gallery of Make a Statement Day shirts, and add your own. Meanwhile, at the Pollard Middle School, Needham Olympian Aly Raisman was bringing Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and …

Make a Statement Day: Share your Shirts!

Teens from Needham wear their feelings on their sleeves, literally, for one day of the year.

[Update: Because Needham Public Schools Closed Today, Needham Youth Services tells us the shirt-wearing part of Make a Statement Day will be on Monday, March 11. 5:34 p.m.] On Make a Statement Day, students and faculty wear white t-shirts decorated with inspirational, funny or artistic quotes--often a phrase that means something to them. The school provides blank shirts and decoration supplies--not to mention pizza and music during one of the decoration days.  Patch stopped by the second decoration day, saw some of the shirts, and chatted with Needham High School principal Jonathan Pizzi.  Make a Statement Day is today, March 8. Students decorated their shirts on Wednesday and Thursday, the latter day in the cafeteria. See more from past…

5 Things You Need to Know: March 7

Scones and songs, books and blogs, and more to round out the first week of March.

1. Guess what? Snow. There's a 90 percent chance of snow during the day, which shouldn't leave more than the half-inch expected to have fallen overnight. The National Weather Service is also predicting temperatures today to range from 34ºF to 30ºF.  2. Bake up some Irish Soda Bread and Scones, with a little help from the kitchen atWhole Foods Market. At 11 a.m., they are starting a class on baking up these doughy treats. Space is limited, so they ask people to register by contacting the Customer Service Desk at 781-235-7262. 3. Today is the "making" part of Make-a-Statement Day. Noon, at Needham High School, students are invited to come and make shirts in the cafeteria. Music and pizza provided, as well as shirts on which to make …

Have Something to Say, Needham? Put It On a Shirt

Needham make-a-statement day coming at the beginning of March. What would you put on your shirt?

Each year, Needham High School staff and students have a day during which they can truly express themselves: Make a Statement Day. On that day, students and faculty wear white t-shirts decorated with inspirational, funny or artistic quotes--often a phrase that means something to them. The school provides blank shirts and decoration supplies.  This year, Make a Statement Day is March 8, with decorating days on March 6 in room 728, and March 7 in the cafeteria--complete with music and pizza. For a taste of what students can expect, check out last year's video (to the right). For kids lacking inspiration, Needham Youth Services has a few suggestions on their site. Topics range from general advice and quotes to social issues to technology.  …

VIDEO: NHS Makes a Statement

Needham High School staff and students wrote messages on white T-shirts and wore them to school on Friday, March 30 as part of Own Your Peace-Piece Week.

Last Friday, Needham High School staff and students truly expressed themselves, wearing white T-shirts decorated with a variety of quotes, song lyrics and phrases from inspirational to funny for the annual Make a Statement Day. Organized by Needham Youth Services and the Make a Statement Day Club at Needham High School, the event encouraged teens to speak out in a unique way—by wearing their words. With about 1,000 T-shirts donated by Mark's Moving Company and Lisa's Boutique, students and staff gathered for a big T-shirt decorating party on an early release day, Wednesday, March 28, working while they enjoyed music and pizza donated by local restaurants. Additional shirts were decorated on Thursday, and everyone wore their shirts to …
