Needham Girls' Long Distance Runners Shine at Weston Twilight Invitational

Two Rockets break school record in their final event of Saturday's meet

Though the entire day was a successful one for the Needham girls track team, they certainly saved their best for last. Seniors Katina Russell and Kate Connolly finished up the meet strong for Needham by placing seventh and eighth respectively in the two-mile, each breaking the outdoor two-mile school record of 11:45. The record was previously broken in 1983 by Kathy Kramer. Connolly finished at 11:41, which is a personal record, and Russell was just a few seconds over her personal record at 11:36. "This was her first 2-mile of the season, so it was a very good start," said Needham coach Chris Van Cott of Russell. "The two-mile was an outdoor personal record for me," said Russell.
