Police Reports: NHS Student Found with Pot, Knife

The following information was supplied by the Needham Police Department. Any charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

A Needham High School student was cited for marijuana possession after school staff reported that he appeared to be under the influence on Tuesday, June 11. A small amount of marijuana and a pocket knife were allegedly found on the 15-year-old's person. Along with the civil citation, he was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon. Police Reports: Moped Crashes into SUV

The following information was supplied by the Needham Police Department. Any charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

A moped operator was injured when he crashed his vehicle into the back of an SUV on Saturday, June 2 in the area of Great Plain Avenue and Marked Tree Road. The SUV driver told police she had been attempting to take a left turn onto Marked Tree Road when the moped crashed into the back of her vehicle. The moped operator confirmed this account, saying he had become distracted while driving just prior to crashing. The crash occurred at around 6:09 p.m. Needham Fire Department paramedics transported the moped operator to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham with non-life-threatening injuries. Police Reports: Laptop Stolen from Truck

A Hillside Avenue resident reported that someone broke into his truck sometime between 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 and 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 30 and took a Dell laptop computer. Other incidents noted in the June 5 Needham Police reports: Truck Drops Part of Its Load on Bridge A vehicle transporting insulation on Tuesday, May 29 at around 11:39 a.m. dropped part of its load on the Great Plain Avenue bridge over I-95/Route 128. The driver, a 34-year-old Hyde Park resident, was stopped and detained until his foreign license could be verified. He was released with a verbal warning for having an unsecured load. Police Reports: Phone Stolen from Sprint Display

A cell phone was reported stolen on Friday, May 18 from a display at the Sprint PCS Store on Highland Avenue. The phone was described as a Samsung Epic 4G. The matter remains under investigation. Other incidents noted in the May 22 Needham Police reports: Woman’s Card Used Fraudulently at Casino A Pickering Street resident reported on Friday, May 18 that her debit card had been used fraudulently at Twin Rivers Casino in Lincoln, RI. The woman told police that she had used the card on April 6 to withdraw $104 but that $204 had been charged against her account. On April 27, the card was used to charge $144 again at Twin Rivers; however, the woman had not been at the casino that day. Police advised the woman to call her other financial …

Police Reports: Multiple Break-ins at Charles River Landing Apartments

Needham Police are investigating break-ins that occurred last week in three units at the Charles River Landing apartments on Second Avenue. The break-ins were reported on Tuesday, May 8 at around 4:20 p.m. In all three cases, the doors to the apartments had been pried open. An unknown amount of property was taken from the units. On Wednesday, May 9, at around 6:32 p.m., Needham Police responded to another incident at Charles River Landing—this time, an attempted break-in at one of the apartments. Police Reports: Resident Struck Landscaper with Rake

A local landscaper contacted police on Monday, April 9 after a Dell Avenue resident allegedly struck him in the face with a rake during an argument over leaves being blown into the resident’s yard. The landscaper told police he had been doing work at a residence on Page Road when the resident of a nearby home on Dell Avenue confronted him, claiming the landscaper had blown leaves into the resident’s yard. The two began to exchange words when the resident allegedly struck the landscaper in the face with a rake, according to reports. The landscaper suffered minor injuries. The driver’s side window of a vehicle parked at a business on Reservoir Street was smashed in on Friday, March 16. Nothing in the vehicle was taken. The incident is being investigated. Several electronic items were stolen in a break-in at a Lincoln Street home on Sunday, March 3. The resident called police around 11 a.m. after returning home to find the front door ajar. Electronics and several other items were reported missing. Needham detectives are investigating. Police Reports: Hit and Run Witness Left a Note

A woman returned to her vehicle on Highland Avenue after shopping to find an anonymous note telling her that another driver had hit her car and left the scene. The woman called police on Friday, Feb. 24 at around 12:41 p.m. to report the incident. According to the note, an elderly woman driving a vehicle with Vermont plates had struck the woman’s vehicle then left the area. The Vermont driver was later located and advised of the situation, according to police reports. Norfolk County DA Warns of Ongoing Facebook Fraud

Student from an unspecified area school has been threatened by social media scammer

Parents, educators and local police should be wary of students falling into a Facebook trap by someone who created a fake profile posing as a teenage girl, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey said in a letter received by local school districts. An area student—Morrissey did not specify which town—recently friended someone appearing on Facebook as "Sarah John," whose photo made her appear to be a teenager and who has yet to be identified. "After a few months as a passive friend, this Sarah John initiated conversations that led to the student sharing personal information," Morrissey wrote in the letter.
