Needham Police Chief Reacts to Cell Phone Ban

A bill this week, expected to be signed within the next couple of days, has called for a banning of some phone use while driving.

If you like to text while driving, or you're an under 18 motorist who likes clutching the wheel with one hand and holding a cell phone in the other, you may be soon breaking the law. House and Senate lawmakers this week introduced a bill that will outlaw drivers of all ages from texting while driving. Additionally, drivers under the age of 18 will not be allowed to use their phones at all when behind the wheel, including making calls. Needham Police Chief Tom Leary likes the bill, but believes that it is only the first step in several measures that need to be taken. "As far as distracted driving…it's an issue that we all have been concerned with in law enforcement for many years," he said. "In general, we feel the texting ban is good, but …
