First Cricket Match in a Century to Be Played Sunday
Event to be held on Sunday, Sept. 25 as part of Needham 300 celebration.
More than 100 years ago, Needham Heights was dotted with knitting factories for which the town had gained fame and financial prominence. Many of the workers in those factories were immigrants from Europe who brought with them their love of the game of cricket. Now, in celebration of Needham’s 300th birthday, the first official cricket match to be played at Needham’s Cricket Field in nearly a century will take place on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 p.m. when Needham 300 will host a cricket match between teams from the Massachusetts Cricket League.
