Driver Cited in Van-Cyclist Collision

Needham bicyclist reportedly treated at Beth Israel for non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of a van that struck a Needham bicyclist early Tuesday morning was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic but faces no other charges in the incident, police said Wednesday. Needham Police responded to the scene around 6:59 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31 at the intersection of Charles River Street and Winding River Road. At the scene, officers found that a 57-year-old Needham man had been struck by a van and appeared to have lacerations to his face and a broken wrist, according to Needham Police Lt. Chris Baker. The man was already being tended to by witnesses at the scene, and a physician who lived in the area also helped administer first aid until Needham Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene, Baker said.
