Dear Precinct J voters, Please accept my sincere thanks for electing me as one of your Town Meeting Members in the election held on April 10. This is my first time to hold elected office, and I hope to represent our precinct well. With sincere thanks, Georgina Arrieta-Ruetenik Greendale Avenue
New and returning board members were sworn in on Wednesday, April 11.
After two months of being down one member, the Needham Board of Selectmen once again has all five seats filled. On Wednesday, April 11, the day after the Town Election, two returning members and one new selectman were sworn in to office, and the board reorganized for the coming year. New selectman Matt Borrelli joined the board for his first three-year term after winning a contested race on Tuesday against opponent Michael Greis. Borrelli's wife Alison and two children watched him take his oath of office, led by Town Clerk Tedi Eaton, before the board got down to business for their first meeting in April. Selectman Moe Handel, returning for his second term, and Selectman John Bulian, returning for his fourth term, also took the oath of …

Town Clerk: Voter turnout on April 10 was at about 20-25 percent.
After winning the selectman’s race in Tuesday’s Town Election, Matt Borrelli will be sworn in to office tonight, at the board’s next meeting. Borrelli took about 56 percent of the votes in the contest against Michael Greis for a two-year term on the Board of Selectmen, receiving 2,453 votes to opponent Michael Greis’s 1,864 votes (42 percent) and winning nine of the town’s 10 precincts. Greis beat Borrelli only in Precinct I, where he received 275 votes to Borrelli’s 267. Borrelli heard the results at a post-election party held at New Garden restaurant on Chestnut Street, where he was waiting with his wife Alison, campaign manager Louise Miller and other supporters. “We were just ecstatic as the precincts came in,” he said. “We knew that …

A look at which residents earned, three-, two- and one-year terms.
Editor's note: This article was updated at 2 p.m. to add Sandy Balzer Tobin as a three-year Town Meeting member for Precinct C. Tobin's name was inadvertently omitted during the initial tally. Annual Town Meeting is about one month away, but voting members have had to put in some effort early on just to get a seat on the floor. All 240 seats were up in the April 10 Town Election, because Needham precincts were rearranged following the 2010 U.S. Census. To maintain the staggered voting system, in which 24 seats are typically up in each Town Election, the newly elected Town Meeting members will receive a term length based on the number of votes they received on April 10. The top third vote-getters in each precinct will receive the usual …

Jacob, DiCicco take spots on the Park and Recreation Commission.
Matt Borrelli has won a seat on the Needham Board of Selectmen, according to official results released by the Town Clerk’s Office shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday. Borrelli received 2,453 votes to opponent Michael Greis’s 1,864 votes, winning the two-year term with about 55.6 percent of the vote. Borrelli won nine of the town’s 10 precincts, losing to Greis only in Precinct I, where he received 267 votes to Greis’s 275. In the contested Park and Recreation race, incumbent Tom Jacob and newcomer Dave DiCicco won the two open seats, beating another newcomer, Matt Toolan. Jacob led with 2,209 votes, followed by DiCicco with 2,051 votes. Toolan collected 1,742 votes. In a write-in campaign for a seat on the Board of Health, Jane Fogg won with …

Results of today's Town Election will be posted soon on Needham Patch.
The polls officially closed at 8 p.m. for Needham's 2012 Town Election. Early reports have the voter turnout at between 10 and 15 percent, although an official tally has not yet been announced. Check back with Needham Patch for results as soon as they become available this evening.
Polls have been 'steady' at most precincts, workers say.
More than 1,400 Needhamites had cast their ballots as of 2 p.m. on Town Election day, with a turnout that several at the polls referred to as "steady." By noon, 169 votes had been cast at Precinct F, located in the Stephen Palmer Senior Center. Over at Precinct A at Hillside Elementary School, 110 votes had been cast by about 12:30 p.m., while Precinct B had 177. Lou Picariello, who was holding signs outside Hillside for Park and Recreation Commission candidate Dave DiCicco and selectman candidate Matt Borrelli, said he thought the traffic had been slow. "I think there have been more people coming to pick up their kids at the school than voting," he said. By about 1:10 p.m., at Mitchell Elementary School, Precinct J had a vote count of 210…

Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Needham voters will head to the polls today to pick a new selectman, decide which two candidates will sit on the Park and Recreation Commission and elect 240 Town Meeting members. The polls will be open in all 10 precincts from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters in Precincts C and D should note that, as they did in the March 6 primary, they will be voting at High Rock School instead of at Newman Elementary School, which is undergoing renovations. However, this time, voting equipment will be set up in the school library, not in the art room as it was in March. Below is a complete list of locations by precinct: As a quick reference, individuals can go online to wheredoivotema.com and enter an address to find their polling location. Residents also can …

Our town is very fortunate to have two qualified and dedicated people running for the unfilled selectman’s seat. One of them is Matt Borrelli. Selectman races are non-partisan but spirited and passionate. I first got to know Matt, his dynamic wife Alison and their family five years ago during the energetic 2008 selectman’s campaign. It was during Candidates' Night and the many opportunities holding campaign signs on street corners that I learned how passionate Matt is for good government and how committed Matt is to making Needham a terrific town to raise a family. In 2008, I believed that all Matt needed was town government experience and then he would be ready to be a fine selectman. Since then, Matt has worked hard to gain that …

Thank you to Matt Borrelli and his campaign staff for their dedicated effort to engage more people in this election; especially Louise Miller, his campaign manager, and David DiCicco who selflessly put aside his own campaign to ensure that Matt‘s message was heard. To see Selectman Borrelli filling the empty seat on the Board provides promise that the work of Jim Healy will continue; that being, …   more ›
