You asked, now Patch Answers.
Who is Richard Heos? A Patch resident asked us this question, and here is the answer. Next week, Massachusetts goes to the polls to choose between Democratic candidate Ed Markey and Republican candidate Gabriel Gomez to see who will fill the seat vacated by John Kerry in the U.S. Senate. However, also on that ballot is Heos, a Woburn resident representing the Twelve Visions Party. After serving in the U.S. Navy, the 66-year-old currently is self-employed and serves as an official in local area youth sports leagues. Although Heos is a longshot by any stretch of the imagination, he is no stranger to politics, volunteering in several Republican organizations over the years as well as running for Mayor of Woburn in 1991. "This race is similar …
Treat Cupcake Bar episode airing on Food Network baking competition Sunday night.
A local bakery is getting ready to ship out for war, or rather "Cupcake Wars" Head baker Adie Sprague and manager Sarah Waters from Treat Cupcake Bar, with a location on Highland Ave here in Needham, will be competing on the Food Network cupcake competition. In "Cupcake Wars," four teams of bakers square off in rounds of cupcake baking. The prize is a cool $10,000 and a chance to showcase their work at an event. Sprague and Waters actually filmed in October, but could not tell anyone until the week of the program. Patch caught up with Sprague and Waters, and got a few impressions (but no results) from the episode. "Our employees didn't even know where we were," Sprague remarked. They had submitted an application to the program a …

The U.S. Senate candidates have one week to go before voters head to the polls.
Gabriel Gomez and Edward Markey spent their final debate before next week's U.S. Senate special election clashing over their records and who has the better vision for both their commonwealth and their country. The debate, taped in Boston, broadcast on several local networks and moderated by veteran city newsman and Boston University professor R.D. Sahl, was the last of three contests before voters head to the polls to fill U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's former seat. No matter the issue, be it taxes, gun control, abortion, national security and their own personal and professional histories, the two men found disagreements at every turn. Both candidates could agree on one thing: they believe the other candidate's ideas are "old and …

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Needham and surrounding towns, effective from 5:23 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. They predicted up to to two inches of rain in less than an hour this evening, which could cause flash flooding particularly in urban areas and locations with poor drainage. A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation, and the NWS recommends monitoring later forecasts and to be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
