Needham boys lacrosse takes on Marshfield in a back-and-forth game on Thursday night.
Needham took on Marshfield in Thursday's back-and-forth boys lacrosse game. At the half-time, the score read 6-4 Needham. The Rockets gave up two more goals before the end of the game, but not without scoring six more. Final score was 12-6 Needham.

One nearby school district thinks so.
Over in Ipswich, school officials have decided to fold the district's Middle School Honors Night into a wider school assembly this year, saying it made students who weren't honored feel left out, the Salem News reported this week. The Ipswich Middle School principal reportedly sent parents a letter explaining the decision, saying an exclusive honors night can be emotionally damaging and can impact a student's academic growth. "The honors night, which can be a great sense of pride for the recipients’ families, can also be devastating to a child who has worked extremely hard in a difficult class but who, despite growth, has not been able to maintain a high grade point average,” the principal's letter read, according to the Salem News. …

Two Needham High seniors awarded Youth of the Month by the Needham Exchange Club.
The Youth of the Month club have named two more of their Youth of the Month. Needham High students Andrew Noble and Maggie Boyd earned honors from the Needham Exchange Club. The group also awards scholarships and the Youth of the Month and Youth of the Year awards, which they did at their March 7 meeting, according to a press release from the Club. A scholar-athlete and senior at Needham High, Noble is also a volunteer with a number of local community organizations and activities. He received the award at the meeting with his parents, Andrew and Liz Noble. “I would just like to say thank you for choosing me for this award," Noble said in a press release, "I would also like to thank the Exchange Club for everything it does in town.” Boyd…

Due to the expected winter storm on Tuesday, the state announced that the MCAS English Language Arts Composition test for students in grades 4, 7 and 10 has been postponed until Monday, March 25.
Since much of Massachusetts is expecting a winter storm on Tuesday, and with it the possibility of numerous school closings or delayed openings, the MCAS English Language Arts Composition test for students in grades 4, 7 and 10 has been postponed until Monday, March 25, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education announced on its website. Training session for mental health program Icanhelp later in the month. Organizers hope to have people registered by the end of today.
If you have four hours to spare, and want to help Needham youth, then your time is running out to do so. Icanhelp is a mental health program which aims to create safe spaces for struggling students and act as a conduit to resources around town. The program has a four-hour training session coming up, March 20, 4-8 p.m. at Needham Town Hall. To introduce the program, the Publich Health Department held a one-hour presentation at Town Hall in February. The concept of the program, according to a Health Department press release, is loosely based on CPR. Friday, Needham goes email free as part of the annual Needham Unplugged series of events.
Email may not get you a response come Friday, as Needham Unplugged moves into Email-free Friday. Heavy email users are asked to step away from the computer and cease mailing items electronically on March 15. On this day, residents and business are urged to contact people by telephone or face-to-face meetings. In an email, Needham Youth Services encouraged students, residents and businesses not only to skip emails on Friday, but to set up an automated out-of-office reply. Needham olympian Aly Raisman stops by the Pollard Middle School to talk about underage drinking and making healthy decisions.
A Needham Olympian returned to her middle school today--to talk to the kids about making good choices. Aly Raisman brought The Century Council's Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don't Mix program to the Pollard Middle School on Monday. The program encourage parents and kids to have active discussions about the dangers of underage drinking. In addition to promoting an ongoing dialog between parents and kids, the Ask, Listen Learn program aims to give kids the courage to "say YES to a healthy lifestyle and NO to underage drinking." To that effect several student leaders, and Raisman, played a quick interactive game on a projection screen. Due to snow, there is no school at Needham Public Schools today.
With the Latest Forecast: saying Needham can expect another 1 to 3 inches snow, CBS Boston reports that all Needham Public Schools are closed today. The news kids have been waiting for all morning: no school today. CBS Boston reports that St. Sebastian's is also closed. Previously, the schools were going to open, but with a two-hour delay.
