Monday Essentials: Harvests, Houses, Hounds and Horses, and More!

A handful of weekend events in and around the Dover, Needham and Sherborn area.


1. The National Weather Service forecasts that today, Monday, will have some areas of fog before 10 a.m., and possibly overnight in the evening. Highs of 69ºF expected with 47ºF lows. 

2. Take a page out of the “New England Notebook: One Reporter, Six States, Uncommon Stories.” The Sherborn Library is welcoming "Chronicle" reporter Ted Reinstein to talk about his new book. 3. When parents talk, they sometimes get answers about preschool--such as when Parent Talk hosts a Preschool Fair at the Newman Elementary School in Needham. People from over 30 leading preschools in and around the area will meet and answer questions about their programs. Starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Free for Parent Talk members, and $10 for non-members. 

4. Needham is hosting the annual Harvest Fair at the town Common come 10 a.m. on Saturday, running until 3 p.m. Not just the harvest fair, but also the Souper bowl. Come and get a few bowls of soup, meet some folks from around town, and enjoy harvest season in Needham. For more information visit the Harvest Fair website

5. Dover Historical Society is once again gearing up for their annual Old Home Day. This year it is Sunday, Oct. 6, and will feature many old favorites from the past events, including the Grange Supper, Horses and Hounds in the parade, and some demonstrations and presentations at the Caryl House. Starts with the ringing of the town church bells at noon.
