Local Fourth Graders Support Alzheimer's Association

Students in the class of Sabrina Shemesh at in Needham recently voted to donate their weekly charitable collection to the Alzheimer's Association.

How do grade school children pick a disease associated with advancing age? The students were inspired by fourth graders Sarah and Julia Lissy, who attend Hebrew school there. It is the school’s tradition to collect tzedakah, or charity, every Friday. The children collected throughout the year and when their teacher asked for a place to donate, Sarah and Julia suggested the Alzheimer's Association, in memory of their grandfather, Don Schulman, who suffered and lost his battle with Alzheimer’s four years ago.
