Video of Aly Raisman's Parents Goes Viral

It may have been Aly Raisman who qualified for the all-around gymnastic finals in the over the weekend, but her parents, Needham residents Lynn and Rick Raisman, have become mini celebrities in their own right.

Twitter has been buzzing since last night's NBC Primetime showing of the U.S. women's in the qualifying round at the London Games, after NBC showed a close-up of Raisman's parents reacting to their daughter's performance on the uneven bars.

In the video clip, the Raismans can be seen making worried faces, arching their backs and moving almost as if they are up there on the bars with their daughter. Lynn Raisman repeats "Come on, Aly," over and over again, while Rick Raisman shouts, "Yeah" after his daughter sticks her landing and then roars "Aaah!" after it's all over, as if to let out all the leftover anxiety.

"You Have to Watch U.S. Gymnast Aly Raisman’s Hilarious Parents React to Her Bar Routine," reads the headline on Gawker.com, and many Twitter users have passed that and other links to the NBC video around since the 8 p.m. Sunday broadcast.

A blogger on BabyCenter.com said watching Raisman's parents actually made her nervous.

"In fact, I think my blood pressure rose after watching Aly Raisman’s parents in the stands," the blogger wrote. "[...] What a ride this must be for them, watching from the sidelines and hoping against hope that their daughter brings her A-game."

The clip of the Raismans has been posted around the Web on FoxSports, YahooSports, the Jewish culture site Jewcy.com, and by individual users on YouTube, Tumblr and Blogspot.

Raisman's performance on the uneven bars, along with her consistent scores on the vault, balance beam and floor, helped secure her one of two U.S. spots in the all-around gymnastics competition, which will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2.
