Needham Softball Players Have Winning Season

Local athletes helped their teams in Concord and Dedham bring home championship glory this summer.

Softball players in Needham have had a great season this summer, bringing home several wins recently in each of their respective leagues.

Over the weekend of July 21-22, two Needham residents contributed to the Concord Raiders' championship win. Emily Rizzo and Lucy Colarusso and the 14U Raiders won the 2012 Raiders Rumble Tournament. The team went undefeated in the tournament with a 5-0-1 record.

The team battled from behind in all three Sunday games to ultimately beat the Emass Panthers 6-3 in an exciting finale. The Raiders are a J.O. ASA travel softball team, based out of Concord.

In addition, three eighth grade players from Needham—Shannon Kirshey, Ali Dugan and Julia Ritcey—recently contributed to tournament wins for their Dedham team, which brought home the Hockamock Softball League Championship.

The Dedham team remained undefeated in the Hock's Tourney all the way through to the finals last week and a 3-1 win over Franklin for the championship.
