Rockets Review: Girls Basketball Postseason, Track Records Fall, Carey Division Gymnastics

Girls Basketball Qualifies for Postseason!

Girls Basketball traveled to Weymouth on Tuesday and came away with a 50-38 win.  While the win was the team's 5th in a row, and 8th in 11 games, it was also the team's 10th of the season, which is significant as it qualifies them for the postseason.  Monday night's match-up at top-5 Braintree has been postponed to Wednesday, 2/20, so the Girls will wrap up their schedule at Newton North on Tuesday at 5:00pm (double-header with the Boys - 6:45pm), at Dedham on Thursday, and then at Braintree the following Wednesday.  The MIAA Tournament will begin after February vacation.

Gymnastics Wins BSC Carey!

On Tuesday night, the Gymnastics Team wrapped up the BSC Carey Division Title as they took down the host Rebels of Walpole.  With the win, the Girls move to 8-1 on the season, having only lost to undefeated, Herget Champion, Wellesley.  The BSC Championship Meet has been moved to Wednesday at 6:30pm at Newton North and then the athletes and team will wait to find out if they qualify for postseason competition.

Indoor Track Records Fall! 

At the BSC Indoor Track Championships on Wednesday at the Reggie Lewis Track Center, strong performances were highlighted by Adrian Amaya's title in the the 2-mile, Sarah Armstrong's title in the Mile, and record breaking 600 meter runs by both Dan Alpert (Boy's Race) and Hallie Armstrong  (Girl's Race).  Visit the NHS Track Blog at http://www.needhamrunning.blogspot.com for more information.
