Girls Basketball Coach Resigns

Rockets' Kim Benzan plans to spend a few seasons on the sidelines.

The varsity girls basketball team will have a new head coach this season, as Kim Benzan recently resigned.

The decision to leave the Rockets wasn’t the easiest transition, Benzan said, as she witnessed a great deal of tearful goodbyes and hugs from a team she described as, “her daughters.”

Benzan is planning to spend the next few seasons on the sidelines, as well as with her family, but said she hopes to return to the hardwood in the future. She also said that once news broke of her resignation, various colleges expressed interest in her, but she turned down their offers.

Benzan thanked Needham High School, the Needham Athletics Department and Director of Athletics Micah Hauben, as well as her various teams, parents and Rocket supporters, who made her experience quite memorable.

The girls varsity basketball team will begin their season on Friday, Dec. 16, when they host Dedham High School.
