AHRC NYC Honoring Aly Raisman at Thurman Munson Dinner

Needham Olympian to be honored by New York charity at 33rd annual reception.

 

A New York philanthropic organization is taking Aly Raisman to dinner--The 33rd annual Thurman Munson awards dinner on Feb 5. 

The AHRC New York City foundation hosts the annual dinner, for which tickets start at $1,000. The awards honor Olympic and professional athletes for their contributions to the community, according to the event invitation

Other honorees for this year's dinner include Jerry Lewin, Hyatt Hotels Sr. Vice President of Operations, and New York Yankees pitchers CC Sabathia and David Phelps. Of the honorees, Raisman is the sole woman.

The dinner is held on Feb. 5, at the Grand Hyatt in New York.

AHRC NYC is an organization that raises funds for developmental disabilities and related causes in New York, and writes grants to meet some needs. According to their About Us page, they also run two summer camps and support a middle school.

The dinner is named for New York Yankees catcher and captain, Thurman Munson. According to a post on New York Sports Day, past 'Thurmans' include Yogi Berra, Muhammed Ali and Patrick Ewing

Picking up a gold medal in Gymnastics, the team captain was given a welcome home worthy of an Olympian after the London 2012 Olympics, complete with parade and an Aly Rally. She is using her celebrity for a cause, as well: Letting kids know it's OK to say 'no' to booze. 

Raisman was also named . After a Video of Aly Raisman's Parents went viral over the summer, her mother was named to Time's The Year 15 Minutes of Fame, a part of their Person of the Year segment, coming in at number 7.
