Needham Looks to 'Save Our Shops'

What would you do to increase foot traffic to downtown local businesses?

Like in many towns and cities across the country, Needham has suffered its share of local store closings, and lots of stores have flyers that read "S.O.S." which means "Save Our Shops." In a recent report by WGBH, it focuses on the future of small-town main streets and its businesses, with a spotlight on Needham.

WGBH talked with Nancy Wright, who owed Perennial Designs in the center for nearly 20 years selling floral arrangements. Another subject, a Babson College student, remarked that Needham is known for its food and that should be capitalized upon. In a study, students looked at Needham's demographic to figure out why shopping moved to nearby shopping centers. They offered ideas such as promoting free Wi-Fi throughout the town.

What do you think would help business thrive in Needham? Do you support local businesses? Would you open a business in Needham?
