Needham Patch highlights local business owners and their livelihood every Saturday. If you'd like to be featured in our next installment or know of any Needham entrepreneurs who may be willing to participate, fill out this form.

This week, we asked Steve Waller, owner of The Center Cafe, to tell us a little bit about his restaurant.

Q: When and how did your business get started?

A: In November, 2009, we took over the location and opened as The Center Cafe on March 4, 2010.

Q: Why did you choose the town you did to open your business?

A: When we sold the Inn we owned in The Berkshires, we moved east to Natick and began looking for a business. We had lived in Needham in the 1980s and were familiar with the area.

Q: What is your business best known for?

A: Quality food and service.

Q: What's your most popular product or service?

A: Our fresh fish, grilled meats, BBQ Ribs and for dessert, our Cafe made Hot Fudge and Butterscotch Sauce Sundaes.

Q: What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?

A: Two things: It is a family run business with the chefs, bartender, host and accountant all in the family. Two, all the photography on the restaurant walls is family photography.

Q: Does your business offer a special deals card or program?

A: Yes. We offer special menus that lead into Town Events.

The Center Cafe, located at 1027 Great Plain Ave., Needham, is open Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. For more information call 781-455-8800 or email thecentercafeneedham@gmail.com. When we took my mother-in-law to the Center Cafe for her birthday, we didn't mention to anyone at the restaurant that it was her birthday. We must have been talking about in passing at our table and someone from the staff must have heard us. At the end of our meal, they brought out a small birthday desert -- totally on their own. This is a restaurant that pays attention to it's customers. Plus the food is great!
