Students Rejoice: School's Cancelled for Friday

Due to the heavy snowfall scheduled to fall in town, Needham Public Schools will close their doors Friday.

Needham superintendent Daniel Gutekanst made the announcement via Twitter at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

So far, there are a couple of inches of snow on the ground, but the bulk of it will come Thursday night into Friday. A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Needham is to get  8 to 14 inches of snow. There will be “considerable blowing and drifting snow with near blizzard conditions possible at times tonight into Friday morning,” according to the website.

“The snow will become heavier tonight and winds will also increase. This will result in dangerously low wind chills.”

Winds will be northeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Visibility will be one quarter to a half mile at times.
