Students Make a Statement

Hundreds of students from Needham took part in this year's Make a Statement Day.

Hundreds of students filed into the Needham High School cafeteria last Tuesday to decorate their free t-shirt, grab some free pizza and participate in Make A Statement Day.

The awareness-raising event, which spanned the entire week, is in its fifth year since the Needham Youth Services and Needham High School founded it and has been growing consistently each year. Students and faculty are given the opportunity to speak their minds without saying a word using free t-shirts.

Statements range from political, to funny to artistic but the bottom line is that everyone has fun. The hope is that students will see how much fun it can be to get involved in an issue of importance to them.

This year's program is part of the month long program Own Your Piece/Peace at NHS. Thanks to Mark Silverman, over 1,000 t-shirts were given out and worn last Friday. Pizza was also donated by Town Pizza, Not Your Average Joe's, Stone Hearth Pizza, and Nicholas's. Students have already begun to plan for next year.

Video from the event, filmed by The Needham Channel, can be found on YouTube.
