Needham Soccer Earns No. 1 and 2 Seed; Field Hockey Back in State Tournament

Here's a mid-week update on Needham High School sports.

MIAA Division 1 tournament seedings and schedules were announced Wednesday, Oct. 31 for boys and girls soccer and field hockey.

Standing at 15-1-3, the Needham High School boys soccer team earned the No. 1 seed in DI South, while at 13-1-3, the girls earned the No. 2 seed in DI South.  

The teams will play back-to-back on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Memorial Field in double-header tournament action. Needham girls will play the winner of the Falmouth/Plymouth South game at 11:45 a.m., while Needham boys will play the winner of the Brockton/Quincy game at 1:45 p.m.

Ticket prices for the double-header will be $5 students and senior citizens and $7 for adults. Children ages 6 and under get in free.

Needham Field Hockey Back in State Tournament

After missing the postseason the past two years, the NHS field hocke team finished second in the Bay State Conference Carey Division this fall to earn a spot in the DI North Tournament.

The 18th-seeded Rockets will travel to No. 15-seed Reading on Thursday, Nov. 1 for a 4 p.m. game. The winner will travel to No. 2-seed Masconomet on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the next round of the tournament.

More Seedings Coming

The MIAA will announce seeding and bracket information for girls volleyball on Thursday, Nov. 1. Needham stands at 11-8 with one match to play.

Boys and girls cross country and girls swimming and diving sectional information will be released before the competitions next weekend.
