MSBA to Decide on Inclusion of Hillside to Eligibility Period

Hillside Elementary School is on the agenda for the next meeting of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

This public meeting will be held 10 a.m. at 40 Broad St., Boston.

“Wednesday’s vote is on whether to invite Hillside Elementary into our Eligibility Period, which is the first step in our system,” said Dan Collins, press secretary of the Massachusetts School Building Authority. “A successful vote would initiate the process of completing initial requirements for the potential project and of determining the district’s financial and community readiness to enter the capital pipeline.”

Earlier this month, Needham voted to appropriate $650,000 towards the feasibility study for Hillside School at the Special Town Meeting. Several options are being considered for construction.

Hillside, which opened in 1961, is considered overcrowded. It last underwent major renovation in 1997. The calculated capacity for the original school is 261 students. The enrollment currently is 429.
