MCAS Results for Needham

Large percentage of students score proficient or better on Mass. standardized tests.

The results are in! The MCAS results. 

For the most part, Needham school district students scored higher than the state average. Earlier this year, Needham was ranked #32 on Boston Magazine's ranking of school districts statewide

What follows is an overview of local students compared to the state average.

English

Across the district, across all the grades, more than 80 percent of students scored proficient or better on the test. 33 percent of students rated advanced in English, compared to the 19 percent statewide. 52 percent of Needham scored proficient, while 50 percent of the state scored the same. 15 percent scored needs improvement or failing. 

Math 

For mathematics, 47 percent of Needham students are advanced, 34 percent proficient. Only 19 percent of students need improvement on or failed the test. 

Statewide, the numbers are not quite as good: 28 percent advances, 33 proficient, while the remaining 39 percent need improvement. 

Science and Technology

26 percent of local students were advances, and 49 percent proficient in Science and Technology testing. Meanwhile, students needing improvement or failing numbered 25 percent. 

The state put 16 percent of its students in the Advanced category, and 37 percent in proficient. There are 35 percent of students in Mass. who need improvement in this category, and 12 percent who did not pass the test.
