Forum for Potential Town Meeting Members February 12

Have you been thinking about running for Needham Town Meeting but don’t know how to begin? Do you want to be part of decisions that guide Needham? Are you interested in how our tax dollars are spent? Do you want to add your voice to the discussion of the future of schools, public services, zoning, and town government?

Attend this one-evening event on Tuesday, February 12, at 7:30 PM at Powers Hall in Needham Town Hall to learn what Town Meeting does, time commitment and expectations, and how to become a Town Meeting Member. A video presentation will be followed by remarks from Moderator Michael Fee and a question-and-answer session with a panel of current Town Meeting Members. The Town Clerk’s office will be open so potential Town Meeting candidates can pick up nomination papers on site. This public service event is presented by the League of Women Voters of Needham.

Approximately 80 Town Meeting Members (8 from each of our 10 precincts) will be elected (or re-elected) at the April 9, 2013 Town Election. Town Meeting candidates must collect signatures from 10 registered voters in their precinct, although the Town Clerk recommends getting 12. The nomination papers, with the signatures, are due back in Town Hall by February 19.
