Selectmen Reorganize: Wasserman Named Chairman

New and returning board members were sworn in on Wednesday, April 11.

After two months of being , the Needham Board of Selectmen once again has all five seats filled.

On Wednesday, April 11, the day after , two returning members and one new selectman were sworn in to office, and the board reorganized for the coming year.

New selectman Matt Borrelli joined the board for his first three-year term after on Tuesday against opponent Michael Greis. Borrelli's wife Alison and two children watched him take his oath of office, led by Town Clerk Tedi Eaton, before the board got down to business for their first meeting in April.

Selectman Moe Handel, returning for his second term, and Selectman John Bulian, returning for his fourth term, also took the oath of office Wednesday.

Afterward, the board elected Selectman Jerry Wasserman as chairman, Selectman Dan Matthews as vice chairman, and Bulian as board secretary for the rest of 2012 into early 2013. Wasserman succeeds Handel at the helm.

Borrelli's first meeting was a busy one, as the board reviewed articles on the annual and special Town Meeting warrants—giving their support for a majority of the items; heard from supporters of two citizen's petitions regarding articles that would limit pesticide use on town property and support an overturn of the federal Citizens United decision; and discussed the recent MBTA cuts.

The board's next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 24.
