Quick Look: Plans for Greene's Field

At the selectmen's meeting on Tuesday, April 24, Selectman John Bulian, the board's liaison to the Study Committee, presented a draft plan for . The plans call for a play structure located on or close to the footprint of the former play structure and restoration of the park's field, basketball court and grass areas.

Bulian said a number of fundraisers are underway to raise money for playground equipment on the site, including , held April 21, and the Needham Women's Club's upcoming house tour on June 3.

The plans call from a landscaped entrance with benches, gardens and a picnic area at the corner of Pickering Street and Great Plain Avenue and along Great Plain. The baseball field will be located along Pickering Street and will feature a new backstop, fences and benches. The field and grass area will be restored with natural turf and possible sod and irrigation.

A walking path is proposed along the fence line. New asphalt overlay and backboards will be installed on the basketball court, according to the plans.

The design also shows that the playground area will be fenced in and will feature separate structures for two age groups. The swingset will remain, and a sheltered picnic area will be located along Pickering Street near the parking lot.
