Needham Town Manager Elected to MMA Leadership

The Mass. Municipal Association elected Town Manager Kate Fitzpatrick as its president.

At the Mass. Municipal Association's 34th Annual Meeting and Trade Show, the organization elected Fitzpatrick as their president, with Attleboro Mayor Kevin Dumas serving as the group's vice-president.

The position will put Fitzpatrick at the head of the MMA's board of directors, and will place her in a central role advocating for the needs of other communities around Massachusetts, according to a press release posted on the town website last week

According to the MMA website, she is also the organization's first female municipal manager serving as president

"Kate Fitzpatrick’s leadership abilities will be of enormous value to all of the cities and towns of Massachusetts," MMA Executive Director Geoffrey C. Beckwith said in that release. "She is a respected and approachable advocate on behalf of local officials and taxpayers in all communities, as local leaders seek a full partnership with the state in our common work to make Massachusetts stronger and more prosperous."

The MMA's board of directors is made up of other mayors, selectmen and town administrators from around the Commonwealth. The group holds eight regular meetings in Boston, another meeting with the Local Government Advisory Commission and the governor, and an annual retreat.

The election was announced at the end of January.
