Hurricane Sandy Cleanup Info for Needham Residents

Have a downed wire? Need help clearing a tree from your property? Still without power and need a place to charge your cell phone? Here's what you should know.

As cleanup continues around Needham following Hurricane Sandy, town officials would like residents to keep in mind the following information, as posted on the town website, needhamma.gov.

Wires
It is very important that residents steer clear of any downed wires. Always assume that downed wires constitute a danger. Please contact Needham Police to report any new downed wires at 781-444-1212.

Power
If you are experiencing a power outage, please contact NSTAR at 800-592-2000. It is important that you contact NSTAR each day of interrupted service. The Needham Free Public Library will be available for respite and for charging electronic devices on a daily basis. The library hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. and may be adjusted if circumstances require.

Trees 
The DPW currently has Parks and Forestry tree crews working on a list of issues that have been reported to the Department of Public Works, Police Department and Fire Department. If there is a non-public safety situation that may not have been reported, please contact the DPW Administration at 781-455-7550, press 2 followed by 1.

The DPW is presently working with the utility companies on downed trees. This is a multi-phased process, as wires must be deactivated, trees removed, and power restored, and may take some time. Once the roads are clear of obstructions and downed wires, Town crews will begin to remove other debris from roadways.

Flooding 
The DPW currently has Water and Sewer crews working on unclogging drains and checking catch basins. Please report any street flooding to the DPW Administration at 781-455-7550, press 2 followed by 1. The DPW appreciates your assistance in clearing any catch basins in the vicinity of your home.

Recycle & Transfer Station
The RTS is open during normal business hours this week, Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are encouraged to utilize this facility to drop off storm debris. On Sunday, Nov. 4 ONLY, the RTS will accept ONLY leaves and storm debris, and that branches/brush etc. should be separated from leaves.
