7-Eleven Looking to Open New Location 24-Hours a Day

Special permit which would allow 24-hour operation of a new convenience store in an empty storefront on Chestnut Street.

 

24-hour convenience may soon be coming to Needham, if a permit goes through.

In a public hearing slated for March 19, The Board of Selectmen will consider a permit to allow 7-Eleven to open for 24 hours a day. According to an announcement on the town website, the convenience store plans to open in the former Friendly's location.

The longstanding ice cream shop closed its doors in October 2011 and has since remained empty. The Friendly's Ice Cream Corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is when the family restaurant shuttered.

People with comments about the application can voice those at the meeting on March 19, 7 p.m. at Town Hall, or can contact the Selectmen by e-mail selectmen@town.needham.ma.us, or letter.
