2012 Needham Town Election Results: Town Meeting

A look at which residents earned, three-, two- and one-year terms.

Editor's note: This article was updated at 2 p.m. to add Sandy Balzer Tobin as a three-year Town Meeting member for Precinct C. Tobin's name was inadvertently omitted during the initial tally.

is about one month away, but voting members have had to put in some effort early on just to get a seat on the floor. All 240 seats were up in the April 10 Town Election, because Needham precincts following the 2010 U.S. Census.

To maintain the staggered voting system, in which 24 seats are typically up in each Town Election, the newly elected Town Meeting members will receive a term length based on the number of votes they received on April 10. The top third vote-getters in each precinct will receive the usual three-year term, expiring in 2015; the second third will receive a two-year term, expiring in 2014; and the bottom third will receive a one-year term, expiring next spring.

In precincts where more than 24 names were on the ballot, the remaining individuals did not receive a seat. In precincts where less than 24 names were on the ballot, write-in candidates could earn a spot at Town Meeting.

Here is a precinct-by-precinct breakdown of how Needham voted and who earned Town Meeting seats (incumbents—those re-elected to their seats—are marked with an i). Note: These results are based on the tallies posted by Town Clerk Tedi Eaton on Tuesday, April 10; official term assignments have not been confirmed yet by the town clerk.

Individuals from Precinct A who received the highest votes and were elected to a three-year Town Meeting term include:
