Waltham Man Helps Rescue Woman From Car Fire

Commuters teamed up to assist the New Bedford driver when her vehicle began smoking on Route 128 in Needham.

A New Bedford woman received some life-saving assistance from a fellow commuter Wednesday evening when on Route 128 in Needham.

Waltham resident Luke Tripp told FOX 25 that he was following a car on Route 128 southbound near exit 18 in Needham at around 7 p.m. when he saw smoke coming from underneath the car in front of him, according to an article posted on myfoxboston.com.

Tripp was able to get the female driver's attention, and she pulled over to the breakdown lane. Soon after, flames began showing in the vehicle, and Tripp used a fire extinguisher from his truck to fight the fire while two more people helped pull the woman out of the car, according to the Fox story.

The woman was identified as a 38-year-old New Bedford resident. No one was reportedly injured in the blaze, according to FOX.

Route 128 southbound was shut down for some time because of the incident.
