Police Reports: Newton Man Injured in OUI Crash

The following information was supplied by the Needham Police Department. Any charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

A Newton man who was allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Needham on Sunday, April 8.

Police responded to the crash on Second Avenue near A Street at around 1 a.m. and determined that the driver, a 24-year-old Newton man, had been drinking, according to reports. The man was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for injuries.

He was summonsed to Dedham District Court for OUI, operating to endanger and marked lanes violation.

Boston Man Driving on Suspended License
A Boston man was stopped in Needham on Friday, April 6 for driving with a suspended license. A Needham police officer pulled over the vehicle on Highland Avenue at around 7:56 a.m. after running the registration while on patrol in the area. The driver, a 25-year-old Boston resident, was summonsed to Dedham District Court for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

Two-Car Crash with Injury
One driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at Webster and Rosemary streets on Friday, April 6 at around 11:57 a.m.

The uninjured driver, a 29-year-old man living in Lowell, told police he did not have a license and provided a passport from Brazil. He was summonsed to Dedham District Court for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield right of way while making a left turn.

The other driver was transported to the hospital for non-specified injuries.

Vehicle Owner Cited for Not Having Insurance
A Boston woman is being summonsed to court for having an uninsured vehicle after her car was pulled over in Needham on Friday, April 6. The vehicle, which was being driven by a man who was not the registered owner, was pulled over on Highland Avenue and Arbor Street at around 12:10 p.m. A review of the vehicle registration showed that it had been revoked because of insurance cancellation.

Vehicle Check Leads to Drug Citation
Three individuals were cited for marijuana possession after police stopped to check out their apparently disabled vehicle on Saturday, April 7. At around 1:03 a.m., a Needham officer came across a vehicle stopped on Prince Street and approached the occupants to check on their wellbeing, according to reports. While talking with the occupants, the officer reportedly smelled the odor of marijuana.

The three occupants, whose ages were not specified in the report, were each cited for a town bylaw violation of possession of one ounce or less of marijuana.

Newton Man Involved in Hit and Run
A Newton man was charged with leaving the scene of a crash after he struck a vehicle on Highland Avenue on Saturday, April 7.

Police were called to the scene of a hit and run at around 2 p.m. The man whose vehicle was struck told the officer that someone in a red pickup truck had hit his vehicle and left the scene. After an investigation, police located the vehicle and its operator.

The truck owner, a 64-year-old Newton man, was summonsed to Dedham District Court for a turning violation and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with property damage.

Suspicious SUV Seen at School
Police were called to at around 11:44 p.m. on Saturday, April 7 for the report of a suspicious black SUV that had dropped off two men.

Police arrived on the scene and spoke to the driver, a Needham resident, who said that he had been dropping off a friend that lived on Tudor Road. The driver was notified that he was trespassing on school property and left without incident, according to reports.

Intoxicated Man Taken into Custody
Needham Police placed a 21-year-old Newton man into protective custody on Sunday, April 8 at around 1:50 a.m. after he kept walking around the scene of a vehicle crash, apparently intoxicated. The man was walking around the crash site on Second Avenue in Needham “hindering responding units from performing their duties,” according to reports. He was placed into protective custody but not charged.
