Police Reports: Moped Crashes into SUV

The following information was supplied by the Needham Police Department. Any charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

A moped operator was injured when he crashed his vehicle into the back of an SUV on Saturday, June 2 in the area of Great Plain Avenue and Marked Tree Road.

The SUV driver told police she had been attempting to take a left turn onto Marked Tree Road when the moped crashed into the back of her vehicle. The moped operator confirmed this account, saying he had become distracted while driving just prior to crashing. The crash occurred at around 6:09 p.m.

paramedics transported the moped operator to with non-life-threatening injuries. The man was also cited for operating a moped without a license and failure to use care when stopping.

Trespasser Detained
Police were called to the area of Greendale Avenue on Thursday, May 31 for the report of trespassing. Officers located the individual and turned him over to the Massachusetts State Police, according to reports. He was advised that, should he trespass again, he would be arrested.

Resident’s Credit Card Used in Florida
A Needham resident reported on Thursday, May 31 that someone had used her debit card to make fraudulent charges in Florida. The victim had her card in her possession and had not been to any of the locations where the card was used. The matter is under investigation.

iPhone Missing
A Hoover Road resident reported on Friday, June 1 that she had lost her iPhone in New York City. The matter is under investigation.

Hit and Run in Staples Parking Lot
A Newton resident reported that her vehicle was hit while parked in the parking lot on Highland Avenue on Friday, June 1.

The driver of the other vehicle, described as a white Honda Pilot, left the scene without exchanging information. A witness was able to write down the license plate number. A police check of that number revealed that it belonged to a 46-year-old Dover resident.

Police contacted the owner of the Honda, and she got in touch with the other vehicle owner to exchange information.

Two Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash
Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred on Great Plain Avenue at Marked Tree Road on Saturday, June 2 at around 1:09 p.m.

The two drivers were transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham for injuries. A section of Great Plain Avenue was closed temporarily, and all three vehicles were towed from the scene.

The crash is under investigation.

Dryer Fire on Evelyn Road
A house fire was reported on Evelyn Road on Sunday, June 3 at around 4:25 p.m.

The first unit on the scene reported heavy smoke coming from the house. Needham Fire Department officials arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire. A preliminary investigation revealed that it was likely a dryer fire, according to reports.

No one was injured in the incident.

Possible Seizure Reported on Garden Street
Police were called to a Garden Street business on Sunday, June 3 for the report of a woman having a possible seizure in the parking lot. No further information was included in the report.

Needham Youth Charged with Alcohol Possession
One Needham youth was charged with underage possession of alcohol after police came across him and a few friends walking on the railroad tracks near Chestnut Street on Friday, June 1 at around 11:16 p.m. The individual who was found with alcohol was taken home and left in the custody of his mother, according to reports. He will be summonsed on the charge.
