Needham Police Log: Door-to-Door Warrants, Roommate Frauds and More

Tuesday, July 16
  • A man on Lexington Avenue reported that on July 3, some time between 2 and 5 p.m., someone hit his car parked in his driveway. The left-rear panel of his car was damaged in the truck.
  • Police responded to a shoplifter at Trader Joe's at about 8:45 p.m. The party involved will be summonsed to court. 
Wednesday, July 17
  • At about 10 a.m., police took a fraud report from a Wingate at Needham resident who said a former roommate took and cashed some checks. 
  • A Stratford Road residence was broken into and entered, police responded to the residential alarm at about 11:15 a.m.
  • Vandalism of a vehicle parked at the High Rock School, someone had keyed the vehicle between 7:30 a.m. when she arrived and 7:15 p.m. when she returned to the car. 
Thursday, July 18
  • 9 a.m., at Tedeschi's on Garden Street, dispatch reported a property damage crash on May Street, where a vehicle's window was smashed by a rock, which was launched by a piece of landscaping equipment. The landscapers provided their insurance information.
  • Police responded to Highland Avenue and Carey Road for a disabled vehicle. The driver said the axle on her car snapped after driving over a recent work site on Highland Avenue. Police towed the vehicle and took a report 9:15 a.m.
  • A walk-in reported a hit-and-run crash at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. At about 3 p.m., one vehicle sustained minor damage, and police say there is no suspect vehicle at this time. 
  • 7 p.m., police saw a man walking door to door, selling products on Great Plain Avenue, near Mount Vernon Street. Police approached him to ask whether he was properly registered to sell door-to-door. He was not registered, and a records check showed that he had two default warrants from Newton. 42-year-old Dwayne Coleman of Chicago, IL, was arrested and charged on those warrants.
